Discover Your Straighter, Healthier Smile
You may already know that orthodontic treatment can straighten your teeth and create a healthy, aesthetically pleasing smile. However, did you know that these aren’t the only benefits?
Orthodontic treatment offers an opportunity to improve the function of your teeth and align your bite. It also helps to correct facial imbalances, makes maintaining oral hygiene easier, and prepares you for any restorations or implants. Plus, it can improve your sleep and may even elevate your self-esteem!
At South Cariboo Dental Clinic, we use technology like a 3D scanner that eliminates the need for messy impression materials that are not always popular with patients.
Additionally, we offer a variety of options, such as traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, and Invisalign, that address the unique needs of each client.
Invisalign's Clear Solution to Straightening Teeth
Invisalign clear aligners are discreet, removable, and lack brackets or wires, making orthodontic treatment an appealing option for patients who are hesitant about getting traditional metal braces.
Our Approach to Orthodontics
Our goal is to help patients experience orthodontics differently. At South Cariboo Dental Clinic, our goal is to work with our patients to achieve the straight and healthy smile they desire. That’s why we follow a collaborative approach that allows us to customize each patient’s treatment plan.
The initial step involves scheduling a consultation. During your first appointment, we will discuss your concerns about your smile and review all available treatment options to ensure you feel confident in our recommendations.
The Treatment Process
Just as people are unique, no two orthodontic treatment plans are alike. Your plan will be tailored to the specific needs identified during the planning process.
-
ACTIVE PHASE
During your orthodontic treatment, you will visit our office for regular adjustment appointments, typically every three weeks. Elastics and wires will be adjusted at these appointments.
While undergoing treatment, you should also avoid certain foods if you have braces. Maintain your excellent dental hygiene practices and continue with your at-home care to ensure you stay on track with your treatment and that your teeth are straightened as scheduled.
Specific instructions based on your orthodontic treatment will be provided to you. Bring any questions or concerns you may have to your appointments. We can help you understand the treatment process.
-
PLANNING PHASE
During the planning phase of orthodontic treatment, we review your dental health history and take note of your oral health needs.
Your first appointment may include:- An evaluation of your medical and dental history
- Taking "moulds" or impressions of your teeth
- X-rays of the teeth and jaws
- A CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) scan
After these preliminary steps are completed, we will then design your treatment plan customized for your orthodontics of choice: braces or custom-made Invisalign Clear Aligners.
-
RETENTION PHASE
After completing your active treatment, you will enter a post-treatment phase with retainers.
Typically, removable retainers are prescribed to help maintain the changes to your teeth that happened during active treatment.
You must wear your retainer as instructed by your orthodontist to help stabilize your teeth and bone in their new positions.
The length of your treatment with ceramic or metal braces and a retainer will vary based on your individual circumstances and factors.
Orthodontics for Children
We recommend that all children have their first orthodontic checkup by the time they turn seven. Early detection can help address or plan for orthodontic problems.
If your child doesn't need immediate treatment, we will routinely monitor their growth and development through our recall program. This ongoing observation allows us to guide you on the optimal timing for your child to start treatment.
For Our Adult Patients
A straight and healthy smile has no age restriction. In the last ten years, orthodontic treatment has become increasingly popular among adults.
If you have previously considered orthodontic treatment but did not pursue it because you weren't sold on traditional braces, request a consultation to see if you are a candidate for Invisalign clear aligners.
These aligners are made with a clear material for a more discreet approach to orthodontic treatment.
